Talkin about Go Skateboarding Day! Obvi. It's tomorrow, June 21st!

It's a day for skateboarding clearly. It's a simple concept: drop what your doing and hit the pavement. Get out with some friends and push wood. This is a worldwide event too. There is even an entire organization dedicated to the day. On there site you can organize your own event or find others near you. And you can see what people around the world are doing. It's pretty cool.

Lets talk about skating a bit. Ya know, history style. If you skate you probably know that it had its start in Cali by surfers who wanted to surf all the time. Even when there weren't any waves. It started with longboarding and evolved into street skating. Longboarding is actually making a comeback big time though. As much as I like to knock it, longboarding is actually pretty dang fun. And if you're using it to get around, it's a bit more practical than a regular skateboard.

Skating gets a really bad rap though. People associate it with punk kids who damage property and cause general mischief. Sure some skaters might be assheads, but that's just cause some people are assheads. Kids cause mischief no matter what they're doing. And profiling and banning skaters is pretty sad. Having a deck under your feet doesn't cause some phase shift into buttholery. That's a predetermined disposition. I skated all through highschool. I skated habitat decks (if that means anything to ya). I was always a sucker for graphics, but then I ended up loving the concave.

I legit want to buy these right now. They look so good.

Anyway my friends and I were actually better than most kids our age. We were never out to mess anything up, we just liked skating. That didn't stop us from getting kicked out of places and into trouble just for a hobby. Realistically skating keeps kids active, social and can help keep them out of things they shouldn't do. But unfortunately it gets demonized. And that is essentially the idea with this day. It promotes a healthy hobby and in a positive light. Help keep it that way. If you want to get something together get on that site and post it!
