October Events!

What up, y'all? Now, you may think that Halloween is the only thing to get excited about this month, but that's where you'd be wrong! October is absolutely chock full of fun, exciting events and I'm about to tell you what they are!

All month long we're celebrating National Chili Month, National Apple Month, National Cookbook Month, National Field Trip Month, and National Popcorn Popping Month! Mmm, popcorn...

Moving on! In the first week of the month, we'll celebrate: National Homemade Cookies Day (10/1), Name Your Car Day and Phileas Fogg's Wager Day (10/2), Ten-four Day and Vodka Day (10/4), National Kale Day (10/5), Mad Hatter Day (10/6), and International Frugal Fun Day on the first Saturday of the month (10/7)!

October birthdays kick off with everybody's favorite beagle, Snoopy on 10/2, followed by one of KU's favorite authors, Anne Rice on the fourth, and Pittsburgh's favorite Penguin owner Mario Lemieux on 10/5!

Next we'll celebrate National Pierogi Day and International Octopus Day (10/8), Nautilus Night (10/9), National Angel Food Cake Day (10/10), It's My Party Day (10/11), Columbus Day (10/12), International Skeptics Day (10/13), and Be Bald and Free Day (10/14)!

Happy birthday to Count von Count on 10/9, H.J. Heinz on 10/11, and the founder of our great state, William Penn on 10/14!

National Grouch Day (10/15) kicks off the third week of October, followed by a day near and dear to the hearts of KU employees, Boss's Day, on 10/16! We have the absolute best boss in the world, so Boss's Day is kind of a big deal.

Make sure cake and candles are ready for Friedrich Nietzsche and P.G. Wodehouse (10/15), Oscar Wilde (10/16), Bela Lugosi (10/20), and Carrie Fischer and Ursula K. Le Guin (10/21)!

Then we'll round out the month with CAPS LOCK DAY (10/22), National Bologna Day (10/24), National Frankenstein Day (10/29), Create a Great Funeral Day, Candy Corn Day, and Devil's Night (unrelated, all on 10/30), and finally National Knock Knock Jokes Day, National Magic Day, and of course Halloween on 10/31!

October birthdays finish up with John Cleese and Sylvia Plath (10/27), Alf and Evelyn Waugh (10/28), and Peter Jackson (10/30)!
