Simon Pegg

Today, not only do we celebrate lust and love, but also the birthday of none other than, writer, actor, and all around funny guy, Simon Pegg. Coincidence? I think not.

Be still my heart.

For people like myself, Simon Pegg represents a mecca of geek culture. He is king of the nerds, under the mountain. He is the captain of the enterprise (not really, but you know, metaphorically). He is a fighter of the living dead, alien cyborgs, and the elderly.  He is ginger. He is the hero this world deserves.

The Cornetto Trilogy.

Pegg is a geek's geek. We adore him, and how could anyone not?  He's sassy, he's sexy, he's funny, he's smart, he's talented, he's rich (I assume), he's.....married. Sorry, ladies... and gentlemen. But we can always pretend, right? I picture our marriage on a space shuttle, with a meteor shower glistening miles away, visible through the greenhouse like section of the ship we'll have our ceremony in. Then we'll live happily ever after in our imagination castle. Have I put too much thought into this? Perhaps. Or perhaps you just haven't put enough thought into it. Slacker.

Simon, planning the wedding in our imagination castle.

Sure all the things I've already mentioned are great, but the real reason we love Pegg is because he embraces who he is, which, it  turns out, is a geek (And in one case an alien named The Editor). But here' what he has to say about it: “Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating.”

"Red shirts don't die when I'm in command"

Simon Pegg has dozens of hilarious and interesting stories about his career and the people he's met and if you're interested in learning more about the awesome world of Simon Pegg, then check out his autobiography, Nerd Do Well. Available at Kards Unlimited.
