Salami Day. September 7th. Celebrating the tastiest of sandwich meats. If you disagree I'll meet you out back of KU for fisticuffs. If you recognize the deliciousness then we're cool.

Salami is a cured, air-dried meat. Usually salami is made of pork or sometimes beef. But, as the internet has told me, it can also be made of pretty much anything else ever including turkey, venison, goose, donkey, swordfish, shark and zebra. I have no idea what they're doing in Japan. But they're doing it right.

There are other ingredients that go into salami as well, but I'm concerned with the meat. MEAT. Although I saw on this gourmet salami site that they had salami with lots of red wine in it. That sounds good. When I was a kid I used to eat salami and barbeque chip sandwiches. Culinary genius at the age of 8. Now that I'm all grown up I enjoy slicing it and eating right off the knife. Like a man.

I wish I was half as cool as this guy.

The word salami is actually the plural of the Italian word salame. How bout that. We're idiots. We just use the word salami as singular and sometimes plural. Or sometimes we say salamis. America. Anyway it was popular among European peasants due to how long the meat could last. Like over a month at air temperature. I like the way salami sweats at room temp. Mmmmmmmm.

Now don't worry Salami Day does have it's own website, full of great MSPaint drawings of little salami guys. Presumably run by fellow salami enthusiasts like myself. You can even show your salami pride with a Salami Day shirt like the one above. No lies. Buy me one. On this day I'm pretty sure you are legally required to eat salami. So do it. Eat salami. Bring me salami. Salami.
