Established in 1968, KU was founded by Sue Giltenbooth then passed down to her daughter and son-in-law Mary Sue and Ralph Colaizzi, who then passed it onto their daughter Kristen Kershner. Kristen retired in 2021 and passed the torch to an employee of 15 years, Amanda Blair. We uphold LGBTQIA+ and anti-racist values while offering a huge array of fun things to buy: local fare, prints, t-shirts, greeting cards, novelty toys, jewelry, and a vast selection of books. We are unique, eclectic, sometimes irreverent, often weird, and always striving to learn and do better. We have been amusing ourselves and the Shadyside community for more than 50 years, and we would love for you to come join us!
Check out some amazing pictures of the founders below!
